Documentation + User Guide


Controls and User Guide:

  • A and D or Left and Right arrows to move left and right
  • W or Space to jump
  • Mouse to aim
  • Right Mouse Button to Throw and Recall Trident
  • Hold C or Middle Mouse Button to look freely
  • E to fix cracks and holes
  • R to restart the level

To finish a level, you must fix the hole at the end of it by pressing E on it

You can only fix the hole once you have fixed all of the cracks scattered throughout the level

There is an indicator at the top of the screen saying how many cracks still need to be fixed

If you throw your trident at a wall it will stick in, but if you throw it at spikes it will bounce off

If you die, either by touching the spikes or falling in a hole, the level will reset and so will your progress

  • I used the super glue font from fontspace for this game
  • For the crack sprites, I just got the crack part from google images, but the waterfall part I got from dreamer-aruki on DeviantArt
  • For the hole sprite, I got the outline from google images, then I filled the centre with this image from Pinterest
  • For the indicator arrow sprite, I used an image from nicepng
  • I got the wall tile maps from miguelsgp on itch.io
  • I found the sprite for the spikes in this asset pack from opengameart.org
  • I used this Trident sprite on opengameart.org
  • For the player sprite, I used this sprite pack from itch.io

The rest of the artwork was made by me.

I heavily used ChatGPT for the TargetIndicator script, as I implemented it very last minute, but since I watched a few tutorial videos beforehand and developed an understanding of the concept I was able to modify what it gave me. https://chatgpt.com/share/018ecb64-5dcc-41c6-8490-0b8f6f6c454b

Beyond this, I was very sparing with my use of ChatGPT, and only resorted to it when I was really stumped, and most of these issues were resolved with the help of my tutors anyway, as ChatGPT was no help for most of the problems I had. As such, I don't have any more conversation records to share. I used no other generative AI services.


Features:

  • The trident bounces off the spikes with an angle that is actually reflected about the normal of the collision.
  • When the trident goes outside of the camera's view, an arrow shows up on the UI pointing in the direction of the trident.
  • There is a message on the UI that tells the player how many cracks still need to be fixed.
  • The height that the player jumps depends somewhat on how long they press the jump button for; holding the button will make the player jump higher, while just lightly tapping the button will result in a little hop.
